Welcome 2016 and a new school year!
This term we will be studying Biology across the school. The topics covered in the different year levels will be:
Year 1 – Bugs!
Year 2 – Growing and Changing – The life stages of animals
Year 3 – Classification of Living Things
Year 4 – Lifecycle of Plants
Year 5 – Plant & Animal Adaptations
Year 6 – Micro organisms
We started the year of looking at the Scientific Method to learn the steps to follow when carrying out an investigation. We followed the steps of the Scientific method to design an investigation into whether Skittles will dissolve faster in warm or cold water. It was a lot of fun and we found out that the Skittles will dissolve faster in the hotter water.
Next, we were learning about Lab safety and how to correctly use some of the different tools in the Science Lab to make measurements.

- Classifying things into groups based on their physical features.

- Using hand lenses to look closer at objects.

- Using digital scales to weigh the mass of things in grams.

- Wearing gloves and safety glasses to protect our hands and eyes.

- Using a thermometer to measure the temperature of liquids in degrees Celsius.

- Using stop watches to measure elapsed time in seconds and minutes.

- Using graduated cylinders to measure the volume of liquids in millilitres.
