Slithering Snails

The year ones have been busy studying some of the different animals found in the schoolyard. Last week they observed and learnt about snails. We discovered many new things, like:

  • A snail’s body is called a ‘foot’.
  • Snails have four ‘tentacles’, two with eyes on them and two to help them feel.
  • Snails can not see very well.
  • Snails have a shell to protect them from predators.
  • Snails can also make foam to deter predators.
  • Snails can live on land or in water.
  • Snails are hermaphrodites .
  • Snails lay small white eggs.
  • Most snails eat plants.
  • Snails makeĀ mucus to help them move.
  • When the weather is hot and dry, snails hibernate.
